Empower SCI teen program

Join us for our the return of our program geared towards young adults with spinal cord injuries, thanks to the support from the Craig H Neilsen Foundation Creating Opportunity & Independence Community Support Grant. The program has a capacity for 8 individuals ages 14-22 to our 1-week program in Rhode Island. The program will be guided by our on-site peer mentors, our expert clinicians, and a team of directors who have over 10 years experience running Summer Intensive Programs.

Who is eligible?

  • -Individuals with an acquired spinal cord injury age 14-22 years old.

What is provided?

  • 24/7 care from residential aides, overseen by clinical experts.

  • Therapy sessions from clinical experts

  • Rehabilitation Counselling group sessions

  • Room and board for 1 week (All meals provided)

  • Recreational and educational opportunities

Are family members allowed to come?

  • Caregivers will meet with the on-site care team and transfer care upon arrival to campus. Caregivers are welcome to attend for participant drop-off and a short caregiver support meeting on the first day of the program. One of our Program Directors will be a point of contact during the program and are available to provide general updates on participant progress throughout the week.

What you will learn:

  • Build connections with peer mentors and learn new “life hacks”                            

  • Problem-solve with experts on how to make progress towards something that excites you

  • Learn your way around a college campus

What you will do:

  • Hang out with people who want to push you to be your best self

  • Try out a new exciting sport or activity, such as cycling, surfing, sailing, or yoga

  • Ride an adaptive cycle at a state park 

  • We provide volunteer support throughout the day and night to assist with daily care                             

  • Connect with others who have faced similar challenges
